Niels van Oort is co-director of the Smart Public Transport Lab, which aims at improving public and shared transport, including the first and last mile.
With his team, he investigates the impacts, opportunities and challenges of emerging modes,such as on demand transport, shared bicycles and autonomous shuttles.
As a researcher, consultant and strategic planner, he has been involved in public transport projects for over 15 years. He contributed to the planning and implementation of light rail projects such as RandstadRail and the Uithoflijn. He also developed new models and approaches to evaluate and predict ridership and performance.
